Fixing Friends

Today a friend of mine mentioned that he was in the market for a new guitar cable.  Over the holiday someone stepped on his current cable and snapped one of the jacks in two.  Ouch!

So I told him he should bring it over and we can see if I can quickly resolder a new plug on his old cable rather than buy a whole new cable. He seemed genuinely excited and pleased by the prospect. He laughed and commented about how he forgets we can fix stuff.

We CAN fix stuff. It’s something to remember.  In our consumer society we often forget we can fix stuff. Sometimes stuff is made so cheaply that it isn’t worth fixing, but sometimes the experience and opportunity to learn is worth more.  Sometimes it is worth fixing something.  We should all give it a try!
